Wheel Of The Year | Samhain
‘The Wheel of the Year’ is an annual cycle of seasonal festivals, observed by many modern Pagans, consisting of the year’s chief solar events (solstices and equinoxes) and the midpoints between them. ‘Samhain’ marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the “darker half” of the year. Traditionally, it is celebrated from 31 October to 1 November, about halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. The main themes of Samhain are ‘loss and death’, ‘facing fears’ and ‘transformation’. It is a time of overall change: the days are growing shorter, the leaves are falling from the trees. It’s a time to prepare yourself for transitions, to open your heart to changes that you can’t foresee, a time to face your demons and face your fears. As we transform into characters when we dress up for Halloween, the season of Samhain is about personal and ongoing transformation, a transformation that will be completing around the time of Yule.
