Layout inspiration

The delicate watercolors and droll English country stories of Beatrix Potter are legendary. Her most popular character, Peter Rabbit, can be found almost anywhere. A while ago I managed to purchase a number of old Beatrix Potter books and the images inspired me to create this garden themed collection, named after the elderly gardener who makes his first appearance in The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902). This playful collection has the spirit of a sunny spring day in the country, and offers a gorgeous set of painterly papers, delicately enriched with floral stamps, brushes and overlays, a bunch of adorable embellishments that are inspired by the books, but that can also be used in a more general garden themed project, a variety of paint, vintage stamps, labels, seed packets, crocheted pieces, wildflowers, and word art stickers… In shades of carrot, butter, periwinkle, olive, sapphire and caramel, a soft but still bright and cheerful color scheme that is perfect for documenting your garden parties and adventures, a farm stay vacation or even for your Easter projects.

I sampled the colors from this postcard and used them in my kit and the rest of the inspiration just came along as I designed papers and elements…

With the end of June fast approaching and the long summer ahead of us, I wanted to bring back my Wanderlust collection at Sweet Shoppe. Hi everyone! I know that many of you are very busy with the end of the school year, but in Belgium we still have a month to go. My daughter is starting her exams in two weeks and 5 weeks from now we’ll be on our way to France! June is always a very busy month, especially for hubby, who’s a teacher. Our trip to France is something we are really looking forward to.

Father’s Day is two weeks away, and now is the time to prepare a very special gift for your father, grandfather, husband, son or friend. Number 1 Dad was designed a year ago and I am re-releasing this personal favourite of mine at Sweet Shoppe. I merged the word art and the transfers packs with the kit and added a few new elements. Hi! This week I have 3 new packs for you, a new set of Whimsical Frames, a new set of Acrylic Transitions, and an editable Baby Shower Invitation.

Whimsical Frames Vol03

These layered photo frames will allow you to re-create the Viewfinder effect to your photos. The possibilities with these templates are endless: turn layers on and off, change the blend modes, the opacities… duplicate the grungy edges for a stronger effect etc. You can even determine how low or high the ‘battery’ is 🙂

So, what is the Viewfinder effect? I found this information on Wikipedia: “Through the Viewfinder photography (TtV) is a photographic or videographic technique in which a photograph or video or motion picture film is shot with one camera through the viewfinder of a second camera. The viewfinder thus acts as a kind of lens filter. The most popular method involves using a digital camera as the image taking camera and an intact twin-lens reflex camera (TLR) or pseudo-TLR as the “viewfinder” camera. Depending on the model of TLR, the resulting image may have an old-fashioned feel to it, often with vignetting, blurred edges, distortion and dust.”

Acrylic Transitions Vol02

A new set of 9 exclusive, stunning mixed media artist papers, brought to you straight from the atelier of the artist Wim Heldenmoed (my husband). He created these delicious textures by mixing gesso, acrylic paint and bistre on a plastic sheet. They were scanned at high resolution, edited and then digitized. Now you can create art yourself, by using these artist papers as backgrounds in your digital scrapbooking, papercraft or art journaling projects. A printable letter size version of each paper is also included, for a jumpstart on your journals!

Hi there! Spring is definitely here, where I live. I see the trees blossoming, I see spring flowers growing in our garden and temperatures are rising. Time for a spring themed kit, don’t you think so?

Re-releasing Wonderland

In 1865 a story was published about a whimsical world full of fantastical characters, and about a girl named Alice, who followed a white rabbit and accidently got into Wonderland. Today, almost two centuries later, this story is still very much alive. The “Wonderland” Collection, inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, is jampacked with whimsical, romantic and artsy elements and papers. The colours are warm and vibrant with beautiful greens, blues, and pinks, and with touches of gold, in a perfect mix of bold and faded, realistic and artsy, vintage and contemporary.

I created Wonderland exactly a year ago… I didn’t know but when I was making the new previews for Sweet Shoppe I noticed the creation date. Vintage Herbarium Papers

These herbarium pages were created from an old herbarium that my husband made as a child. I carefully scanned them (they were so fragile) and edited them with a soft matte filter to turn them into unique scrapbook backgrounds. Don’t you just love the incredibly real texture, the aged and yellowed tape, the faded colours? You will receive 13 hi res 12×12 in JPG files, including 10 papers with dried flowers and plants, 1 back, 1 pink slip sheet and - as a bonus - the cover of the herbarium itself.

Fly Me to the Moon, originally titled “In Other Words”, is a song written in 1954 by Bart Howard. Kaye Ballard made the first recording of the song in 1954. Since then it has become a frequently recorded jazz standard often featured in popular culture. Frank Sinatra’s 1964 version was closely associated with the Apollo missions to the Moon. In 1999, the US-based Songwriters Hall of Fame recognized the importance of “Fly Me to the Moon” by inducting it as a Towering Song which is an award “…presented each year to the creators of an individual song that has influenced our culture in a unique way over many years.”

Fly Me To The Moon is also one of my ‘older’ digital scrapbooking collections (created about a year ago) and I’m re-releasing a revamped version of it at Sweet Shoppe Designs on this last day of the year. I felt like the elements pack needed a few more things and so I’ve added thirteen extra PNG files and two coordinating alphas. I’m also including the word art in the kit, so the words are no longer available as a separate pack.

I am so thrilled to tell you that I am now a designer at Sweet Shoppe Designs ! I’ve been working behind the scenes for a few weeks now and I’ve met all my fellow designers (it is such an awesome and inspiring community), but now my shop is finally open and I get to tell the whole world!

For my debut, I have a new solo kit and a collab with the AMAZING Studio Basic Designs. Next to that, I have 7 re-releases. I’ll be adding new and old(er) things in the weeks and months to come, but for now, let’s take a look at my shop.

The first you’ll probably notice is that my preview has changed. Sweet Shoppe believes very strongly in promoting all the designers and the shop as a whole, that is why we all have the same preview. It took me a while to get used to it, but I love it now and I’m considering a rebranding for the previews in my Etsy and Creative Market shops as well… that’s for later though.
