Digital Scrapbooking

Mr McGregor’s Garden

0

The delicate watercolors and droll English country stories of Beatrix Potter are legendary. Her most popular character, Peter Rabbit, can be found almost anywhere. A while ago I managed to purchase a number of old Beatrix Potter books and the images inspired me to create this garden themed collection, named after the elderly gardener who makes his first appearance in The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902). This playful collection has the spirit of a sunny spring day in the country, and offers a gorgeous set of painterly papers, delicately enriched with floral stamps, brushes and overlays, a bunch of adorable embellishments that are inspired by the books, but that can also be used in a more general garden themed project, a variety of paint, vintage stamps, labels, seed packets, crocheted pieces, wildflowers, and word art stickers… In shades of carrot, butter, periwinkle, olive, sapphire and caramel, a soft but still bright and cheerful color scheme that is perfect for documenting your garden parties and adventures, a farm stay vacation or even for your Easter projects.

Mr McGregor’s Garden Embellishments

You’ll get 92 digital embellishments (including some alternatives), saved as individual PNG files: 1 arrow, 5 artsy bits, 1 banner (with and without text), 1 bookplate, 2 brads, 2 butterflies, 3 buttons, 1 chickenwire, 2 crochet pieces, 1 doiley, 1 fastener (in two versions), 8 flowers, 3 pieces of foliage, 2 frames (including a mask for the polaroid frame), 4 labels (including 2 alternative versions), 2 labels with a quote, 1 library card, 1 overlay, 5 painted accents, 1 paper clip, 2 pieces of paper, 3 Peter Rabbit images, 1 photo corner, 2 scribbles, 2 seed packets, 1 vintage bird couple on a branch, 7 stamps, 2 wildflower stickers, 2 garden tool stickers, 2 stitches with holes, 2 strings, 2 transfers, 1 twine, 7 word art stickers. All files are 300 DPI. Please note that you need graphic software to work with the PNG files, such as Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Paintshop Pro, PhotoImpact, or Gimp, which is free software.

Available here: Etsy | Oscraps

Mr McGregor’s Garden Solid Papers

A pack with 12 solid papers, 12 x 12 in. Included are 12 JPG files.

Available here: Etsy | Oscraps

Mr McGregor’s Garden Artsy Papers

A pack with 9 painterly papers with vintage accents, and 9 alternatives (just the painterly papers, no references to Peter Rabbit, so you can use them for more purposes). Included are 18 JPG files, 12 x 12 in, 300 DPI.

Available here: Etsy | Oscraps

Or, if you want it all: just buy the Mr McGregor’s Garden Kit!

How to use paperclips in digital layouts

1

Hi! Have you seen the great new paperclip alpha pack in my stores? You will get 4 metal and 4 plastic paperclip style alphas and the whole pack is on sale for a week (make sure you grab it before the price goes up). More information (and some layout inspiration) in this post.

I thought it would be a good idea to show you a quick and easy way to use paperclips in digital layouts and make them look like they are clipped to a photo, paper or element. I will use the layout that I created:

In this layout I have ‘clipped’ the B to the lower picture:

How I did it

Make sure the paperclip layer is selected. Then, in your Layers menu, click on the ‘New Layer Mask’ icon to add a Layer Mask to it.

I use Layer Masks all the time. It allows you to work non-destructively. So if you clip the B to this picture, but decide to move it to another picture later, then you just remove the Layer Mask and start again.

Now go the picture next and make sure that layer is selected. Press the Ctrl Key (on a PC), and at the same time, click with your mouse on the layer icon to select the image (you will see marching ants coming up).

Now go back to the paperclip layer and select the Layer Mask by clicking on it. You will know if the mask is selected if you see it highlighted (there is a white frame around it).

Zoom in to your layout to make sure you see what you’re doing. Then choose a hard round brush of about 20 px (depends on the size of your layout) and start erasing the part of the paperclip that is supposed to be ‘behind’ the picture.

And that’s it!

This was a really simple example, but it works for anything else. Just select the object where you need to erase something first and add a layer mask, then go to the object that sets the boundaries and make a selection. Then go back to the object that needs erasing, select the Layer Mask and erase!

I hope you learned something new - have fun ‘clipping’!

Things to do in the garden

2

Spring is finally here in Belgium, we’ve had some very beautiful days with soft temperatures and a lot of sun. When I look out of the window, I see trees blooming everywhere and I see the colour green coming back in our garden… I do not have a green thumb, in fact, I do not like to work in the garden, and I do not have the ambition to ever do so. But I could not imagine living in a house without one. I’m very lucky, my husband has the green thumb here in our family. He takes care of all the greenery in and around our house. I just have to enjoy it 🙂

All that has brought me the inspiration to design a garden themed kit. It took me like forever to finish it, and it was not for lack of inspiration. I just reworked it and reworked it, changed the colours, added things, removed things… Then I had the idea of adding illustrations that I made myself, with a pen from a Zentangle pen set that I accidently ordered (and decided to keep - maybe it was saying to me, “start drawing again”?)… and so ‘Things to do in the garden’ has become a whimsical digital scrapbooking collection with fantastic vintage and artsy patterns and mixed media designs that will make you wish you had a garden, whether you like gardening or not. The papers and elements are a delightful mix of vintage, realistic, mixed media and handdrawn illustrations. Colours are ranging from brown, clay and blue over fresh green, peach and golden yellow. The textures are rich and distressed, and you will surely love all the stamps, the floral illustrations, the scribbles, the transfers and the word art.

This garden themed collection will help you show off your love of all things green, and will help you create unique and gorgeous pages about your garden adventures and all sorts of other nature and outdoor themed memories.

A new Whimsical Challenge has been posted in this thread. Are you joining me? This time I want you to tell me what your favourite TV show is and - if you can - why.

There are quite a few shows I like, but The Walking Dead is definitely still my top favourite TV show, even after 6 seasons it still has me nailed down to my seat. Here’s the page I made:

I used the following On A Whimsical Adventure packs: A Moment Captured, Among The Shadows, Bubbles And Splatters, Blue Skies Painted Papers.

Maybe next time you’ll be the winner of a $10 coupon?

Whimsical Challenges are now hosted at The Digichick as well!

The lovely Beatrice is hosting the Whimsical Challenges at The Digichick for me, so if you’re a Digichick girl and you feel like playing, then you definitely want to go to this thread! The same rules apply as the ones at The Studio, but the coupons will be for my shop at The Digichick.

And with that being said, I think I’m at the end of my post for this week! Have a wonderful week and see you next time!

Vintage Herbarium Papers & Whimsical Frames

3

Next to the release of my Spring Fever Collection at Digital Scrapbooking Studio (read all about it in this post), I have two more packs that are available in all my shops today:

Vintage Herbarium Papers

According to Wikipedia, a herbarium is a “collection of preserved plant specimens, sometimes with associated data used for scientific study. The specimens may be whole plants or plant parts; these will usually be in dried form mounted on a sheet of paper.”

A few months ago I found an old herbarium, made by my husband, about 40 years ago. It immediately brought back memories of my childhood. We probably all made one in school, and some of you (including me) made one just for fun, to preserve sweet memories of beautiful summers or memorable moments. Pressing flowers is not only a wonderful way to preserve their beauty, they can also be used for a variety of purposes: you can use them to decorate cards, embellish candles, frame them and use them to create wall art, make paper… or you can use them on a scrapbook page!

These herbarium papers were created from my husbands herbarium. I carefully scanned them (they were so fragile) and edited them with a soft matte filter to turn them into unique backgrounds. Don’t you just love the incredibly real texture, the aged and yellowed tape, the faded colours?

You will receive 13 hi res 12×12 in JPG files, including 10 papers with dried flowers and plants, 1 back, 1 pink slip sheet and - as a bonus - the cover of the herbarium itself.

The Vintage Herbarium Papers are available in all my shops - and discounted for a week:
Digital Scrapbooking Studio, The Digichick, Etsy and Creative Market.

* NOTE TO CREATIVE MARKET SHOPPERS - Last week I told you that I was going to offer a new release discount in my Etsy shop (the Etsy system does not allow to set discounts electronically, but I can set the reduced price manually). And I thought, why not do the same on Creative Market? The Creative Market system does not allow to set discounts either, as on Etsy, but I CAN adjust the price manually. So from now on I will be offering new releases with an introductory sale on Creative Market as well, as in all my other shops. After a week the price will go back to normal (that is usually the day after a new release).
Please note that the discount may not always be the same as in my other shops, as I cannot add decimals to my prices (the price always has to be a round number).

Whimsical Frames Vol.01

Perhaps keep just the stitched frame? Or maybe the mask and the frame, and no stitches? Or maybe keep the stitches and the mask, but not the frame? Anything is possible with these layered photo frame templates. You can clip papers or photos to each mask, turn off layers or turn them back on, and create unique accents to your pages over and over again. You will receive 4 large layered frame templates in TIFF, PSD, PNG and PAGE format.

Whimsical Frames Vol.01 is available in all my shops - and discounted for a week:
Digital Scrapbooking Studio, The Digichick, Etsy, part 1 and part 2, and Creative Market.

* NOTE TO ETSY BUYERS - Because of the limited file size that sellers are allowed to upload to their shops, and because I always strive to offer instant download, I split this pack up in two packs. The price has been split up in two as well, so if you buy both packs, you will still pay the same price as if you would buy the complete pack.

Be inspired

Look at the wonderful pages from my creative team. Some of them have combined the Whimsical Frames Vol.01 with the Vintage Herbarium Papers:

A dreamy, almost monochromatic page from Ange, using nothing but the Vintage Herbarium Papers and the Whimsical Frames Vol.01. Sometimes less is more.

Same goes for this vintage page by Ange… She has used one of the Vintage Herbarium Papers and has added some things from my Castles & Princesses Collection. Everything has been toned down to some golden sepia, this could be hanged up on a wall!

Barbara has used one of my favourite Vintage Herbarium Papers. She used the April Fool Mini Kit as well and added some word art from my A Moment Captured Collection. Simply gorgeous! And it shows how you can use an April Fool themed pack for something totally non-related.

Em has outdone herself here! She has used the Vintage Herbarium Papers as a backdrop for her pictures (framed with Whimsical Frames Vol.01) but look at all the blending and the work she has done, wow! Em has used the Spring Fever Collection in the background.

Erin has used one of the two solid papers from the Vintage Herbarium Papers and two frames from the Whimsical Frames Vol.01. She has added triangles from the Stitched Shapes Vol.01 and some things from my Easter Morning Collection.

Look at this - holy moly - so creative! I wish I could take a look in Eszters head sometimes LOL. Eszter used one of the Vintage Herbarium papers as a background for this stunning composition.

I totally love the idea of Judith of using the Vintage Herbarium Papers on a heritage layout! Judith also used Cosy Christmas Kit, Wonderland Elements, Wonderland Charms and the Castles & Princesses Collection. This has definitely got me inspired to scrap those old family pictures of mine.

A beautiful ‘greenery’ page from Ona, using the Vintage Herbarium Papers, some bits and pieces of one of the templates from my Whimsical Templates Vol.02, some cut-outs from the Vintage Mushroom ATC, some papers of the Watercolour Textures Vol.01 and a quote from my Edgar Allan Poe Quotes Pack.

What is not to love about this super cute layout from Ona! Ona has combined one of the Whimsical Frames Vol.01 with a paper and some elements from the My One True Love Collection and word art from my A Moment Captured Collection.

I’ve said it before, I always love to see my ‘older’ packs in use, I think Ona has done a great job here doing so, in her two layouts.

And finally, a page by me :

I have used my favourite Vintage Herbarium Paper combined with one of the Whimsical Frames Vol.01. I especially love the delicate pink/lilac of the flowers of the paper and I found a picture on Pixabay that had just the right colour tone for this layout. I also used A Touch Of Paint Vol.01, a bit of Wonderland and a bit of Easter Morning, and - like Ona - a quote from my Edgar Allan Poe Quotes Pack. Well, actually Ona said she was inspired by me to use one of the Edgar Allan Poe Quotes 🙂

Hehe, that’s it for today, there was a lot to talk about, right?

Have a wonderful shopping and have a wonderful week!

Spring Fever!

1

A huge collab, four times a year, one colour scheme… That is generally the idea of the Coordinated Collections formula at Digital Scrapbooking Studio.

Today is reveal day for the Coordinated Collection for Spring 2016, ‘Rainbow Bright’! All the packs are on sale for just $1, for two weeks. Bundles are for sale for the price of the number of packs, so a bundle with 6 packs (like mine) is just $6 (unbelievable, isn’t it?). You really have to go check it out, the contributions of the Studio Designers are seriously amazing. I already have a few things on my wishlist!

I’m joining the party for the first time since I came to The Studio. ‘Rainbow Bright’ didn’t seem like a fitting title for my packs, because I focused on the ‘Spring’ theme, therefore I have named my packs ‘Spring Fever’.

Let me show you what I have created:

Remember, you can grab all these packs at just $1 each, for two weeks! And the Spring Fever Collection is available for just $6.

Layout inspiration

You will surely be inspired by the amazing pages from my wonderful creative team :

Ange has combined the Spring Fever Collection with one of my Whimsical Templates Vol.02 and I absolutely love the effect of the blended papers! Ange has used a few extras from my My One True Love Collection (the butterfly and some paint).

Another gorgeous page by Ange, using only the Spring Fever Collection.

A gorgeous white space layout from Guest Creative Team member Barbara. I love the strip of patterned paper on top and the cute cluster in the bottom right corner. Barbara has combined the Spring Fever Collection with a few bits and pieces from my Castles & Princesses Collection.

A gorgeous page by the lovely Em! Em has also used my Stitched Shapes Vol.01 and some goodies from my Fly Me To The Moon Collection. I especially love how well the silver leaf from Fly Me To The Moon works with the rest of the page and the stitched rectangle behind the picture adds an interesting detail, without being too prominently present.

Creative Team member Erin created this splash of spring fever by using one of my Whimsical Templates Vol.02 and combining it with the Spring Fever Collection. I love all the blending and there is so much to look at. That picture is amazing too and it is perfect for this page.

A beautiful ‘out of the box thinking’ composition by Creative Team member Eszter! So much to look at in this page, she has also used a vintage bird ephemera from the Easter Morning Elements.

Jen Maddocks is a fellow designer at The Studio and she is a dear friend to me. I have been a member of her Creative Team for years and when she has a moment to spare, she makes an amazing page with my stuff. I totally love this very creative page of her using my Spring Fever Collection. I especially love the effect on the word ‘Rainbow’ and the rainbow picture in her page is truly mesmerizing. I also love how she has created a ‘flower border’ at the bottom of the page. I think she has used all of five Spring Fever Transfers here.

A gorgeous page from Creative Team member Judith. She has used one of my Whimsical Templates Vol.02 and a flower and a brad from my Castles & Princesses Kit. I love the watercolour effect she has created on her pictures!

Sometimes my Creative Team members are spoiling me with more than one page LOL, like Judith (and Ange, at the top of this post). This wonderful page by Judith uses the Spring Fever Collection with one of the Stitched Shapes Vol.01 and a button from Wonderland. Again, what a lovely effect on her picture. It works so well with the papers that she has chosen.

Ona has recently retired and she told me that she loves working in the garden. I’m not sure if this is her house or garden, but I would LOVE to have this kind of front garden. I love the pops of red and orange in this layout! Next to the Spring Fever Collection she has also used one of my Whimsical Templates Vol. 02, a leaf from My One True Love and a flower from my Among The Shadows kit.

And here’s a page from me, using the Spring Fever Fantasy Papers, Spring Fever Solid Papers, Spring Fever Transfers, Spring Fever Splatters and Spring Fever Word Art. I also used one of my Whimsical Templates Vol.01 (twisted and altered):

Remember, these packs will be available for just $1 each, at Digital Scrapbooking Studio only, for two weeks. By the end of April they will go back to their normal prices and I will add them to my other shops.

Next to my contribution to the Studios Rainbow Bright Coordinated Collection, I also have two new packs, that are available in all my shops. Read all about it in this post.

April Fool Mini and Commercial Use Sale

0

April Fool Mini Reveal at The Studio

Last week, on the 1st of April, an April Fool sneaked into The Studio’s store and messed with the previews of the April Fools mini’s that all the Studio designers created. But he has been caught now and the original previews have been restored.

Actually the whole idea was to play a little game with the customers. All minis had the same preview so customers didn’t know what they were going to get. What a great way to discover designers that you didn’t know before and try out different styles, right?

My April Fool mini kit had number 8, and you can finally see what I created! If you love vintage, then you will definitely adore this cute vintage style mini kit to document the practical jokes, the giggles, the silly moments and all the other funny things of April Fools’ Day.

A French postcard delivered the inspiration for this kit. In Italy, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, and French-speaking areas of Switzerland and Canada, 1 April tradition is often known as April fish (poissons d’avril in French, aprilvis in Dutch or pesce d’aprile in Italian). This includes attempting to attach a paper fish to the victim’s back without being noticed. Hence the reference to a fish in the papers and elements:

This mini kit is now available in my own store at Digital Scrapbooking Studio, at the full price though, it was discounted during the April Fools week.

BUT I have also added it to my shop at The Digichick, where I have discounted it for another week.

Papers and elements are - as always - separately available:

April Fool Papers - 3 solids and 3 artsy papers.

Discounted for a week at The Digichick and in my Etsy shop.

April Fool Elements - 15 PNG files, including: 1 vintage postcard, 1 brad, 1 button, 1 felt flower, 1 vintage ephemera flower, 1 metal fish shape, 1 vintage ephemera fish, 2 transfers, 3 pieces of word art, 1 stitched fish overlay 12×12 in, 1 splatter and 1 paint stroke.

Discounted for a week at The Digichick and in my Etsy shop.

Both packs are also available in my shop at Creative Market.

Paper Making Tools Commercial Use Sale

Digital Scrapbooking Studio is having a storewide Paper making tools Commercial Use Sale. Until the 14th of April you can grab all the packs in that section at 40% off, including these 4 packs in my Commercial Use Store at The Studio:

And my very popular ‘Worn & Tattered Vintage Newspaper Textures’ pack:

Commercial Use products are not just for designers, they are great for use in your own personal pages as well! And with the 40% discount, you have the perfect excuse to go shopping.

Sneak Peek

You had perhaps seen this sneak peek earlier this week:

This is my part of The Studio’s Coordinated Collection for the spring… and it will only be available at The Studio (until the 28th of April).

I didn’t want to leave my other customers just like that, so I have created two additional packs that will come to all my stores next Thursday, including The Studio:

So there is a lot to look forward to, stay tuned!

Have a great weekend,

Anja

Whimsical new things

1

In Belgium we are in the middle of the Easter holidays, that is two weeks off from school and both DD and hubbie are at home - my husband is a teacher. It does keep me from working on a normal pace (even though it’s good to have them home). But I have two new packs for you, a new set of Whimsical Templates, and a set of digitally stitched shapes.

Whimsical Templates Vol.02

These templates were created from my own personal layouts and - just like the Whimsical Templates Vol.01 - they offer you a mix of artsy and realistic style elements to create your layouts.

Clip your photos to the clipping masks, recolour the paint layers (or clip a beautiful paper to them), add some embellishments (or not), done! You can remove the frames and use the paint layers as clipping masks for a very artsy style layout, or remove the paint and use the frames only for a more clean layout… Play with blend modes and opacities for surprising results… Create your own unique layouts over and over again!

The templates come in PSD and TIFF format and - this is new - I am also providing them in PNG and PAGE format.

Available in my shops at Digital Scrapbooking Studio, The Digichick and Etsy.

Note to Etsy buyers: Due to the limited upload size on Etsy, I cannot provide instant download for these templates. I will send you a download link for your product within 24 hours of purchase.

Let me show you what my amazing creative team (and I) did with these templates:

Judith kept the structure of template no.2 and created this layout using my Easter Morning Collection. I love how she has clipped the papers to the paint layers. Her pictures are adorable!

Like Judith, Ange has basically kept the structure of template no. 3. And she has also used my Easter Morning Collection to create this layout. The colours of the flowers are perfect with the colours of the papers and elements!

Em has used template no. 4 and I love how she tilted it and how that adds an interesting visual aspect to the layout with the blue paper sticking out underneath. She kept the layout in blue and yellow, to match the adorable boy’s shirt. She used the stitches as a frame for the label. Em used the Easter Morning Collection.

Erin used template no.2, just like Judith. But see how she altered the position of the frames? She moved them to the other side. Same template, a whole different look, I love it! Again, the Easter Morning Collection was used to create this layout.

Another layout from Erin, this time using template no.4. She kept the structure but added one of my Stitched Shapes Vol.01 to add the journaling. And she used Easter Morning Collection.

Another layout by Ange, using template no.1. She used my A Moment Captured Collection to create this layout and used the paint layer on the right as a clipping mask for the photo. I’m guessing she also used a blend mode to make it blend with the background. Amazing layout with amazing pictures!

Barbara used template no.2 and like Erin, she moved the frames to the left. She has also scaled them down a bit. Barbara used A Moment Captured here. Great layout!

Ange has really spoiled me with this third layout, using template no.2 and I was totally surprised to see her use one of my ‘oldies but goodies’, the Vintage Tropical Papers and Vintage Tropical Transfers And Overlays. She has also used shapes from the Stitched Shapes Vol.01 set.

And here are 2 pages that I did:

I used template no.2, A Colourful Fall Paperpack and a tiny bit of the Easter Morning Collection (cream background, leaves behind the branch). I clipped the red paper that I used on the left to clip to the largest paint layer and I recoloured the other paint layers to match the photo.

For this layout I used template no.1, Easter Morning Solid Papers, Easter Morning Paint And Transfers, Watercolour Overlays Vol.01 to create the watercolour effect on the green background, A Stroke Of Luck Solid Papers, and then just colour to recolour the paint layers.

Stitched Shapes Vol.01

This set of stitched shapes will help you add texture and dimension to your projects. They add a unique accent to any layout or art journal page! Use them to create frames, journal spots, or use them as an interesting visual detail. So easy and so versatile. This pack will be one to use over and over again! ‘Stitched Shapes Vol.01’ includes 12 creamy coloured stitched shapes in a shadowed and non-shadowed version, and 12 mix colour stitched shapes (cream+grey), in a shadowed and non-shadowed version. I had so much fun creating these.

The pack is available in all my stores, at Digital Scrapbooking Studio, The Digichick, Etsy and Creative Market.

See the stitched shapes in action :

First up is this amazing geometric layout by Eszter. Like no other Eszter always manages to create something totally unusual. She has used one of the stitched triangles and repeated that shape throughout her layout - simply amazing. I’m totally in love with this. She has used the Easter Morning Solid Papers.

Another amazing layout from guest creative team member Barbara. I’m a true fan of Barbara’s layouts and I love what she did her, using some of the stitched circle shapes, A Moment Captured, Wonderland, My One True Love and look at that: one of my Blue Halloween Papers, one of the first paperpacks I ever made!

Em, another amazing scrapper, has created this layout using My One True Love and she used some of the stitched circles as frames. I love it, I love it.

Ange has used one of the stitched rectangles and my A Moment Captured Collection to create this artsy layout. Don’t you love that adorable girl with the hat??

A clean and simple layout by Erin. She used the Easter Morning Collection and some of the stitched hexagons. Simple but effective!

A Whimsical Wonderland Collection

3

In 1865 a story was published about a whimsical world full of fantastical characters, and about a girl named Alice, who followed a white rabbit and accidently got into Wonderland. Today, almost two centuries later, this story is still very much alive.

My new “Wonderland” Collection, inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, is jampacked with whimsical, romantic and artsy elements and papers. The colours, patterns and textures are warm and vibrant with beautiful greens, blues, and pinks, and with touches of gold, in a perfect mix of bold and faded, realistic and artsy, vintage and contemporary.

Are you getting curiouser and curiouser?

Then grab this exquisite collection and start creating your own Wonderland!
Now on sale at Digital Scrapbooking Studio - Take 30% off your order until February 29th (discount not valid on the bundle).

And the winner is …

In my last newsletter I asked if you could guess the theme of my new collection… Many of you thought it had something to do with vintage and tea parties - and of course tea parties do have some relation to the theme… BUT only one of you nailed it and guessed that the theme had something to do with Alice In Wonderland. That was newsletter subscriber Inger. So Inger, big congrats! I will send you the links today.

Now let me show you what’s included in the ‘Wonderland’ Collection!

Bundle & Save
If you want to grab all 9 packs, then grab the bundle and save money!

Wonderland Full Kit
Included in the kit are: Wonderland Gold Patterns, Wonderland Solids and Wonderland Elements.

The Wonderland Collection is also available in my Etsy shop and in my shop at Creative Market.

A Cosy Christmas

0

It’s been a while since I last posted a message here. Actually, it’s been QUITE a while since I last posted anything new. Time has flewn by so quickly and so much has happened since my last post…

I’ll give you a quick overview:

  1. I have gone solo on Etsy!
As you may recall I joined forces with Tinne and Joachim from VectoriaDesigns in July and they offered me the amazing opportunity to sell my designs in their shop. But it was always my intention to have my own Etsy shop one day. End of November I took the leap and it feels good! Take a look at my shop here.
  2. Next to Etsy and Creative Market, I now have a third digi home at Digital Scrapbooking Studio
After a guest period of one month, I am allowed to stay! Visit my shop here.
  3. I now have a Creative Team! I have five girls who make layouts with my products, and help me promote my products: Eszter, Jen, Ona, Erin and Valé. It takes a lot of work from my hands, it always helps if more people help you promoting and showing what can be done with my designs.

Next to that, I just keep on creating! Can you believe that Christmas is just 10 days away? If you haven’t already, you will definitely get that feeling with my new Christmas themed collection. Created with traditional Christmas colours - red and green - this large collection will help you document your most precious Christmas memories. ‘Cosy Christmas’ is made up of both realistic and artsy elements and will appeal to a variety of crafting and scrapping styles. Busy busy busy

0

I’ve been busy busy busy (but I like it!)… I get up early in the morning and I go to sleep wayyyyyyyyy to late… Why? Well, for various reasons… Let me fill you in on the details:

1) I participated in a local market as an exhibitor

A few months ago I was asked to join the Pukema 2015 market in Puurs, a small village in Antwerp. Not only did I get a call from the Pukema organisation, I was also contacted by the organizer of a local fair in Eeklo (10-11th October), and I was accepted for participation in a third fair in Ghent (29th November). I have never been an exhibitor on a market or fair but there’s a first time for everything, right?
With a market and two fairs ahead of me, I started to make my preparations weeks in advance. I had a stock of my cards printed at Moo, had some posters made of my artwork , and prints from a small collection of designs that I’ve made for Etsy. If you know me, you’d know that I always strive for perfection (not always a good quality!) and I wanted to add something extra. That something extra was a collection of vintage style jewelry with pictures from my designs. Jewelry is not really my specialty, I spent a lot of time on making them, but I love how they turned out!

Having a stock of items for sale is not enough, I had flyers and business cards printed, and I thought of ways to present my products in the best possible way, that would reflect my style and the look and feel of my designs.

Because I was so well prepared the building of my stand went very smoothly and quite fast (I had practiced at home). I had everything with me that I needed and that helped to feel confident about myself. I took my daughter with me (because I know she loves doing those things) for some extra help.

The market was not an overall success, I had many viewers but just a handful of buyers. I don’t think that Pukema was the perfect market for me though, Pukema is more about music (there were concerts all day), having a drink with your friends, something to eat, fairground for the kids, some street amusement… I’m expecting more success at the other fairs. Still, Pukema was an unforgettable experience and I had a lot of positive feedback on my designs.

Some helpful tips :

  1. Being prepared is not a guarantee for success but it does help enormously to feel confident and calm the nerves.
  2. Make sure that your pricing is clear. I found some gorgeous little chalkboards in a dollar store - perfect in the whole concept but most of all: very practical!
  3. Have a little notebook with you. It was a great tip that I got from a friend, and I was happy I took her advice. I took some notes from things that I experienced or thought of and wanted to do better next time.
  4. A few years ago I bought a chalkboard in a store for just 5 Euros. It’s a great way to present yourself and your business. I saw many people watching it and reading what I had written on it.
  5. If the market is outside, make sure you can rent a tent (or if you have one from yourself, be sure to take it). A tent comes in very handy with unexpected showers!
  6. Make sure you have a stock of flyers and business cards with you. I may not have sold that much, people did often take a flyer and a business card with them, and you never know what might come out of that!
  7. A jar with candies is always a good idea if you have families with kids passing you by. While the kids asked for a candy, the parents took a flyer or a business card.

Here are some pictures:

The chalkboard that I bought for 5 Euros, perfect to present my business!

A stock of flyers and business cards. And a jar with candies! Note to myself: a note with ‘take me’ would encourage people even more to grab them, usually they only took a flyer or business card (or both), after we explicitly told them they could.

My vintage style jewelry. I didn’t really know how to present them, but then I found the wooden tree, the perfect display!

Having my cards spread out on the table was the best idea I had all day LOL. I hadn’t planned on presenting them that way, I was just going to put them in the baskets, but people would never have taken the effort to look at them if I hadn’t spread them out like this.

My daughter, all set and ready. She did a great job in helping me out.

And then we had a few showers… glad that I had rented the tent!

Street amusement with Monsterbob

The streets were crowded, despite the rain.

2) I have been allowed to open a shop at Creative Market

Creative Market is a platform for handcrafted, mousemade design content from independent creatives around the world. I had my eyes on them for quite some time, all the best designers have a shop at Creative Market! You cannot just open a shop though, you need an invite. About three months ago I applied but wasn’t accepted. The message was that they wanted to see more of me and then two weeks ago, I applied again! And was accepted… Still cannot believe it.

I will still sell my designs in the VectoriaDesigns shop, Creative Market is just a second outlet.

I have to make new previews for my products (the format is different than the Etsy format) and I have to make new zip files (no TOU or links are allowed in the zip files). Making new previews and rezipping everything is a lot of work, but I’m nearly there. I’ve already had some sales and a product ‘handpicked’ by the staff. ‘Handpicked’ means that your product will be shown on the main page and that makes for a lot of likes and views for your shop. It was my Worn & Tattered Vintage Newspaper Textures that was handpicked by the staff and yes, it’s on their main page. Just scroll down until you see ‘Handpicked’.

Or see the rest of my shop here.

3) New designs

Of course I keep adding new designs to my shop(s). These are the latest additions:

Are you planning on throwing a Halloween costume party this year? Then this invitation template and pack of costume contest printables will be the perfect tool!

6 artsy Artist Trading Cards with vintage mushroom images, with grungy textures. The mushrooms were scanned from prints that I found in a box that belonged to my father. In the box were so many old books, magazines, schoolbooks and other fun bits and pieces.

And then this paperpack in warm autumn colours, a bit worn and textured, for an extra cosy feeling, with faded vintage textures and images. With this pack you will get 8 textured/patterned papers and 1 solid paper. They are perfect for your fall or thanksgiving projects!

Among The Shadows Collection - Sneak Peek

Oh yes, it’s coming! It will be available in a large Halloween themed pack at a very affordable price, somewhere in the first half of October. Stay tuned!

That’s it for now. Enjoy your week!
